Discover the perfect style for you with our chain length guide.
Many of our custom pendants, charms, necklaces, and more can be paired with one of our elegant chain options. Whether you choose a 14k gold adjustable cable chain, a sterling silver fine-curb chain, or another of our styles, we offer necklace chains in a variety of looks and lengths to perfectly complete your personalized jewelry.
Explore our chain length guide below to find the perfect fit for you.
16" Chain Length
This chain length sits closely around the neck. It’s an
ideal choice for petite women and pairs beautifully with strapless tops, dresses, or crewneck shirts. Shorter chains like this highlight heart shaped faces and can be layered with longer necklaces for a stunning effect.
ㅤ
18" Chain Length
The most popular chain length for women, the 18-inch chain
generally rests along the collarbone, while for men, it typically sits at the
base of the neck. This length complements a variety of necklines, especially scoop necks or sweetheart tops, and is flattering for those with longer face shapes.
20" Chain Length
A 20-inch chain adds a bit more length and falls just below the collarbone on most women, while for men, it usually lands at the collarbone. Known as the matinee style, this length is a perfect match for V-neck or halter tops.
ㅤ
22" Chain Length
For most women, a 22-inch chain falls just above the neckline, and on men, it rests a few inches below the collarbone. This length can give the appearance of a longer neck and frames the face well, pairing nicely with collared or square necklines. It’s also an excellent addition for layering with shorter and longer chains.
24" Chain Length
The 24-inch chain hangs below the neckline, while on men, it falls a few inches above the sternum. This length accentuates the height of taller individuals and pairs especially well with turtlenecks. It’s often thelongest length women prefer for daily wear.
ㅤ
26" Chain Length
With a graceful drape, the 26-inch chain is often chosen by men and falls near the sternum. Women can also wear this length, especially when layering with shorter chains for a stylish set. Long chains like this enhance oval face shapes, creating a balanced, elegant look.
Factors to Consider When Choosing a Necklace Chain Length
When selecting a chain length, it’s important to think about what you’ll be pairing it with. Smaller charms generally look best on shorter chains, while larger pieces like pendants or tags work well with longer lengths. The weight of the jewelry also influences how it will sit on your body—a heavier pendant, for instance, will cause the chain to rest lower than a lighter charm.Keep in mind that chain lengths fit differently on everyone. Your body shape and size significantly affect how a necklace will lay; for example, an 18-inch chain will sit lower on the chest of a petite person compared to someone with a different build. Our adjustable chains are ideal for those uncertain about the exact length they need or who want added flexibility in styling their jewelry.
